You can set the default branch name for new repositories that you create on GitHub.

When you create a new repository on GitHub, the repository contains one branch, which is the default branch. You can change the name that GitHub uses for the default branch in new repositories you create. For more information about the default branch, see À propos des branches.

Setting the default branch name

  1. Dans le coin supérieur droit de n’importe quelle page sur GitHub, cliquez sur votre photo de profil, puis sur Paramètres .
  2. Dans la section « Planification du code et automatisation » de la barre latérale, cliquez sur Référentiels.
  3. Under "Repository default branch", click Change default branch name now.
  4. In the text field, type the default name that you would like to use for new branches.
  5. Click Update.
