Creating and paying for an organization for a client

You can create and pay for a GitHub organization on behalf of a client.

Requirements

Before you start, make sure you know:

  • The GitHub username of the client who will become the owner of the organization you create
  • The name your client would like to use for the organization
  • The email address where you would like receipts to be sent
  • The product your client would like to purchase
  • The number of paid seats your client would like you to purchase for the organization

Step 1: Create your personal GitHub account

You will use your personal account to set up the organization. You'll also need to sign in to this account to renew or make changes to your client's subscription in the future.

If you already have a personal account on GitHub, skip to step 2.

  1. Accédez à la page Rejoindre GitHub.

Step 2: Create the organization

  1. Dans le coin supérieur droit de n’importe quelle page sur GitHub, cliquez sur votre photo de profil, puis sur Paramètres .
  2. Dans la section « Accès » de la barre latérale, cliquez sur Organisations.
  3. En regard de l’en-tête « Organisations », cliquez sur Nouvelle organisation.
  4. Under "Choose a plan", click Choose GitHub Free. You will upgrade the organization in the next step.
  5. Sous « Nom de l’organisation », tapez un nom pour votre organisation.
  6. Under "Contact email", type a contact email address for your client.
  7. Si votre organisation appartient à une entreprise ou à une institution, vous pouvez aussi sélectionner Cette organisation appartient à une entreprise.

  9. Click Next.

Step 3: Upgrade the organization to a yearly paid subscription

  1. Dans le coin supérieur droit de GitHub, sélectionnez votre photo de profil, puis cliquez sur Vos organisations.
  2. En regard de l’organisation, cliquez sur Paramètres.
  3. Dans la section « Accès » de la barre latérale, cliquez sur Facturation et plans.
  4. Cliquez sur Mettre à niveau en regard de « Plan actuel ».
  5. Passez en revue les fonctionnalités de chaque plan, puis cliquez sur Mettre à niveau vers Team ou Mettre à niveau vers Enterprise. (You can add more seats to the organization in the next step.)
  6. Under "Upgrade summary", select Pay yearly to pay for the organization yearly.
  7. Sous « Mode de paiement », choisissez de payer avec une carte de crédit ou PayPal.
  8. Remplissez le formulaire des informations de paiement, puis cliquez sur Envoyer.
  9. Consultez les informations relatives aux frais et à votre date de facturation, puis cliquez sur Mettre à niveau mon compte ou Mettre à niveau le compte de mon organisation.

Step 4: Upgrade the number of paid seats in the organization

  1. Dans le coin supérieur droit de GitHub, sélectionnez votre photo de profil, puis cliquez sur Vos organisations.

  2. En regard de l’organisation, cliquez sur Paramètres.

  3. Dans la section « Accès » de la barre latérale, cliquez sur Facturation et plans.

  4. Sous « Plan actuel », en regard du nom de votre plan, sélectionnez Modifier, puis cliquez sur Ajouter des sièges.

  5. Sous « Ajouter des sièges », tapez le nombre de sièges à ajouter.

  6. Cliquez sur Ajouter des sièges.

Step 5: Invite your client to join the organization

  1. Dans le coin supérieur droit de GitHub, sélectionnez votre photo de profil, puis cliquez sur Vos organisations.

  2. Cliquez sur le nom de votre organisation.

  3. Sous le nom de votre organisation, cliquez sur Personnes.

  4. Cliquez sur Invite member.

  5. In the search field, type your client's GitHub username and press Enter.

  6. Select Owner, then click Send invitation.

  7. Your client will receive an email inviting them to the organization. They will need to accept the invitation before you can move on to the next step.

Step 6: Transfer organization ownership to your client

  4. Confirm that your client is listed among the members of the organization and is assigned the owner role.

  5. To the right of your username, select the dropdown menu, and click Manage.

  6. In the left sidebar, click Remove from organization.

  7. Confirm your choice and click Remove members.

Next steps

  1. Contact your client and ask them to add you to the organization as a billing manager. You'll need to be a billing manager for the organization so that you can renew or make changes to your client's subscription in the future.
  2. If you would like your organization's credit card to be removed from the organization so that it's not charged again, contact .
